The Zoo Keepers Association Uganda (ZKAU) is a membership association for animal care professionals to exchange information, network, contribute to wildlife/ nature conservation and foster better welfare for the zoo animal care professionals.

School fees support program

The goal of these programs is to promote inclusive access to education, ensuring that all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have the opportunity to attend school and receive quality education. You can donate and become part of this program.

Leadership:

ZKAU is governed by a board of directors elected from among its membership. The board oversees the strategic direction of the association and works closely with staff and volunteers to implement its programs and initiatives.

Advocacy:

ZKAU advocates for the welfare of zoo animals and promotes ethical and responsible practices in zoological institutions.

Partnerships:

ZKAU collaborates with other professional organizations, zoological institutions, government agencies, and conservation groups to achieve its mission and objectives.

Networking:

ZKAU facilitates networking among zookeepers at regional, national, and international levels, fostering collaboration and exchange of best practices within the industry.

Vision
To be the lead agency in the region, aiding professional development and connections for wildlife caregivers focused to better animal welfare and conservation.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

These are the founding members of the association whose names and contact details are annexed to this constitution.

  1. Professional:

Full time animal keepers including retired full time animal keepers. Part time animal keepers including part time retired animal keepers (Part-time animal keeper defined in bullet below). Includes aquarists, veterinary, or research/ other affiliated technicians to animal care.

  1. Affiliate Staff:

 (Curators, supervisors, commissary, etc), docents, volunteers and supporters of the animal care profession.

  1. Student:

 (Will be requested to provide student identification)

a. Associate Membership:
Institutions supporting wildlife conservation which meet the Full membership eligibility criteria as laid down in section of this constitution.


b. Honorary Membership:
An individual who has made unique, seminal contribution to the zoo keeping is eligible for election to Honorary Membership. The number of Honorary Members cannot exceed one 10 in a calendar year. Under extraordinary circumstances, the Annual general meeting may exceed the normal yearly limitation. Election required the unanimous vote of the executive committee A Member of the association may nominate someone to the status of Honorary Membership by sending a brief (no longer than one page) advocacy statement discussion the candidate to the chairperson executive committee.


c. Commercial membership:
Institutions/ individuals which will relate with the Association in contribution to aid it achieve its objectives.
